You are a professional noticer - you use whatever means necessary (trends analysis, expert evaluations, ethnographic research, contextual interviews, etc.) to identify insights that help propel your design team forward in fixing, enhancing, or creating new experiences. We think you have a solid foundation of Design Thinking, but if not, you certainly have an understanding of how research could and should be used in design.

You have some professional experience of conducting research and have a passion for making research truly impactful on products or services. In all likelihood, your research experience goes beyond testing products and services; you’ve also used research methods to explore and identify new ideas and opportunities.

You have a solid understanding of qualitative research theory; different methodologies, analysis techniques, interview skills, deliverable tools, etc. And last, but certainly not least, you tell wickedly compelling stories founded in the the research you’ve conducted.

At Topp, Design Researchers are the ones responsible for making sure the designs we produce reflect the needs of the people who will be using them. The majority of your time will be focused on leading the design teams and clients through research activities in the projects - plan, conduct, analyse, report, and make impact - but that certainly won’t be your only contribution to the design process. You will be an integral part of each project design team.

The role of a Design Researcher at Topp is varied, which requires you to be open-minded and flexible, as well as a great team player. We value the unique skills and perspective that you’ll add to our team dynamic. Your personal growth is a high priority, and when you work at Topp you can learn and develop in a way that suits your ambitions, whether that’s experimenting with new methodologies, project leadership, prototyping or product strategy.

In addition to your CV, we’d also like to see an example of your Design Research work.  We are interested in seeing the research process you went through, more than the outcome of the design project. Email it to

We are looking to fill this position as soon as possible and will be interviewing immediately.

We look forward to speaking with you!
